Carmel Riley

Speech Pathologist

Hello! My name is Carmel and I am a passionate Gippslander who has lived and worked in Gippsland for the last 20 years. I am a certified practicing speech pathologist with post-graduate qualifications in family sensitive practice.

I have dedicated my career to regional, rural and remote communities, and have worked in public and private health and community settings from the waterline of Western Port Bay right across Gippsland including a fly-in fly-out service to Mallacoota. I’ve also had the opportunity to provide speech pathology services overseas in London, Yorkshire and Liverpool, as well as a number of years supporting policy development and improved access to allied health, mental health and specialist children’s health and developmental services in regional, rural and remote communities across Gippsland and Western Australia.

I describe myself as a ‘generalist specialist’ and have spent a number of years integrating my speech pathology practice in a holistic manner, recognising loss, grief, trauma (complex and developmental), family dynamics and social/environmental context in my therapeutic approach.
Identifying as neurodivergent myself, I am regularly learning and extending my knowledge and lived experience as an individual and parent towards neuro-affirming practice and inclusive leadership. This will be a life-long journey for me, and I’m looking forward to further strengthening my professional practice in this manner.

When I’m not at the clinic, I am enjoying life with my partner, three children and two dogs! I love travel and am also known in our local area for my love of ballroom dancing – my absolute passion.

I look forward to meeting you and working together to see your children and families thrive.
